Story

From the time of Queen Victoria, the English loved to commemorate sports events, dog shows and just about any leisure activity one could imagine. Awards and ribbons were given to celebrate and salute those who participated. This practice continues well into today.

Here we have an example of a typical award medal of sterling silver. The center displays a hand painted enamel miniature of a bird sitting upon a roost. Polychromatic enamels of a yellow orange bird, possibly that of a canary stand out.

The tree branch is tinted in green with a touch of yellow. Lovely details reflect the care which went into the creation. A blue sky with images of puffy white clouds make an excellent backdrop for the colorful avian.

A textured ground and perimeter add visual interest to the pendant. Hallmarked to the reverse for Birmingham, date letter for 1912 and maker’s mark of “AG” or similar.
