SPECIAL MARKDOWN!
Jewelry from the middle years of the nineteenth century found itself confronted with a Victorian era movement which frequently combined whimsy with the natural world and objects within it. Imagination was unleashed and jewelry took a fabulous direction toward novelty and fun.
Piled high within a meticulously crafted miniature hand basket woven with lengths of 14k yellow gold rests an abundance of eggs…in actuality, natural freshwater seed pearls drilled and secured with gold wire.
Suspending the basket pendant and attached to the wire work basket handle is a large pearl secured with gold beads. A finely wrought yellow gold chain link accompanies the pendant.
Examples of these whimsical objects can be found on pages 102 - 103 of the noted book “Earrings from Antiquity to the Present” by Mascetti & Triossi.
Matching earrings, item 19021 sold separately.
