Shafer & Douglas was a staple of the Newark circle of jewelry designers and manufacturers from 1869 until 1931. The firm also had a retail store on Maiden Lane in New York City.
They were known for their attention to detail. As can be seen the 10k rose gold mounting displays intricate incised foliate design work on the shoulders and sides. Multiple prongs secure the rectangular cut garnet of 4.1 carats.
