This fabulous pendant commemorative metal of sterling silver comes from the English silversmith of David Hollander and Son. It was requisitioned by the oldest swimming club in Birmingham, England, that of Birmingham and Leander, to be awarded to the runners up of the 4th division of water polo 1931.
The medal is oval in shape and features an enamel painting of a seated dog with ornate collar and decorative bell. The realistic rendering displays a miniature canine with straight up ears and a pert expression.
To the reverse is a wreath border enclosing the hand engraved lettering of “1931 4th DIV. POLO BHAM & LEANDER S.C. RUNNERS UP”. Weighty and decorative, the fob/pendant is a piece of vintage English history.
