Story
Fabulous treasures from the past and present, fobs bring with them information often reflecting cultural tidbits of their time. These functional objects were more often than not quite ornate.
Especially elegant and opulent in bearing, this one served a purpose which was more likely ceremonial than practical, although works fine imprinting in sealing wax.
Inset is a carnelian stone carved with an intaglio of a muscular and lean dog or fox running across what appears to be a track. Crafted from 15k yellow gold over silver and metal (vermeil), the large fob has three distinctive elements: the bale, the body and the base.
Very ornamental, the piece is virtually Rococo in flavor. Stylized shell motifs and opposed c-scrolls demonstrate “over-elaborate” complicated decoration in a free-flowing less structured manner.
