Its a wonder that opals were not widely known until the mines in Australia flourished starting in the mid 19th century. The gemstone world lacked a luminous choice until then.
A cabochon opal of .60 carats does its tango of color and light in fine form with blues, greens and oranges popping into and out of visual range. Like a petite hologram, opals are all about the experience of movement and light to bring forth their depths.
Adding to the kaleidoscope, eight lovely old European cut diamonds bolster the play. Each chunky antique diamond weighs in at .12 carats, for a total of .96 carats with color of H-I, and clarity of VS2-SI2.
Its silken 18k yellow gold setting is a classic particularly in its fluted shoulders and tapered shank.
