Story
Perhaps the most sentimental and intimate of all types of jewelry, the lover’s eye reaches far into the heart. Only a small segment of a human face yet the image is imbued with desire, emotion and closeness.
This is a rare example of a ring set with a lover’s eye miniature painting. The right eye and eyebrow of a man (also more scarce) is rendered in watercolor. They eye itself is done with a hazel brown hue and is carefully executed with such details as delicate eye lashes individually painted and the gentle folds between the upper lid and the area under the arched eyebrow. The image appears as though the subject is gazing directly into the eyes of the viewer.
The painting is oriented vertically so that when seated on the finger the hand can be rotated in order to look directly at the image. Placed under glass, the miniature is set in a large Georgian mounting of 15k yellow gold and surrounded with a border of eighteen (18) natural saltwater half seed pearls 4 mm in diameter. Shoulders are trifurcated and appointed with twenty-eight (28) of the half seed pearls which range in size from 1 mm to 4 mm. All pearls are individually set in the traditional crimped collet of the era.
Please note that this piece is exceptional in size, setting and quality of the painting.
