Story

Some of the world’s best sapphires originate from Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). Although these gems come in a variety of colors, it is the blue sapphire with its range of unique hues that most people associate with the gemstone.

The platinum ring presented here is superb, clear and fine. The gem has not been subjected to any heat or other treatment — it shade is a blue with a lavender hue. If the stone is examined in strong light using a jeweler’s loupe, the fine whispers of silk-like natural inclusions which create tiny prisms of rainbow colors can be seen. Point of fact — this property is virtually destroyed when the gem is subjected to heat. A deep dome cabochon sapphire of 4.1 carats is outstanding set in a mid-20th century platinum mounting. In strong light the cabochon shape can produce a slight asterism (star) but overall appears as a non-star sapphire.

Embracing the central stone north and south are three trapezoidal platinum plaques set with two (2) diamonds apiece and flanked east west with a diamond within a square medallion. Each of the split shoulders is appointed with three diamonds enclosed within a cartouche and gently tapers to a slender band. Overall, twenty-two (22) diamonds, eight (8) single cut and fourteen (14) brilliant cut diamonds adorn the ring with 1.04 carats (H-I color; SI1-2 clarity).

The ring is accompanied by a laboratory certificate stating that it is a no heat sapphire.
