Story
A beautiful stylized belcher setting of 14k yellow gold raises an antique cushion cut diamond of .90 carats (I-J color; SI2 clarity) to new heights. To the eye, nothing but white refraction and clear chunks of prismatic light reach the eye.
This cut is typically square in shape with rounded corners making it similar in look to a pillow.
The open design of the mounting enables light rays to bounce and refract from the polished surfaces. Even the culet (the area on the bottom), larger than the ones on modern diamonds, adds a most distinctive look often with more fire within than the diamonds of today.
In 1867 the discovery of diamonds in South Africa provided the jewelry world with a supply of these coveted gems like never before. It is believed that the diamond engagement ring began during the Victorian years with the tradition continuing to this day.
The piece presented here is a good example of the style of rings during the mid years of the 1800s with trumpet shaped shoulders accented with a patterned cartouche with a textured surface.
Engraved details provide visual interest along the sides which then segue into a smooth wide shank. This ring has been hand engraved to the interior with “Alice, Feb.5, 1877”. Carry on a time honored tradition.
Accompanied by an EGL USA certificate number US 310998401D with a retail replacement value for only the diamond $6400.
