Story

Most people associate bold coloration to the Art Deco jewelry with the use of vivid rubies, sapphires and emeralds combined with diamonds. In fact, there was another color scheme associated with the movement, that of black and white.

Here we have an example of the use of that contrasting palette in the form of a marvelous ring. Black as night onyx has been shaped into an elongated oval form and accented with a beveled edge. Centered within a smooth 14k white gold bezel sparkles an old European cut diamond of an estimated .15 carats. Pierced and open work spaces imbue the icy mount with stylized images of fans, flowers and leaves lending an air of lightness and femininity to the filigree finery.

Date: Circa 1925.
