Story

The last two-thirds of the 19th century was a time when behavior was quite regimented – even to the point of having everything from pamphlets to massive tomes written about the “proper” manner in which to do virtually anything that might come to mind. In regard to this curiosity of societal mores, it is quite understandable how symbolism came to be such an important sotto voce of communication.

Realized in 18k and silver, a ring is ornamented with the motif of a grape cluster and leaves. A multitude of interpretations of this specific symbol has been used in an attempt to understand how jewelry itself has been a means of transferring information without the use of words.

The grape and leaf form has been used to represent a promise, to revel in the never ending cycle of birth and rebirth and to celebrate life itself with a bacchanalian joie de vivre. A mix of diamonds, an old single cut, two (2) old mine cuts and four (4) rose cuts with an estimated total weight of .19 carats provides a sense of forever to also be associated with this Victorian era ring. Perfect to give as a token of love or as an everlasting promise.
