Story

The dress clip emerged around the 1920s and the double clip attributed Louis Cartier, jewelry designer extraordinaire. The pieces rose exponentially in popularity during the 1930s with the gem-studded ones alongside those of the cocktail variety. These innovative baubles were part of fashion well into the 1950s. The use of the clip was virtually limitless as it could adorn a neckline of a dress, the hair or even a humble purse. Some were made in pairs and set in removable frames. Others were meant to be worn as singlets or as matching clips on either side of a collar. These little darlings were often placed in a strategic area for emphasis. Mechanisms on the back allowed the item to be securely attached to fabric using little prongs.

This smashing 14k yellow gold clip is uber breathtaking in its detail. The piece is circular in overall configuration with a very white and luscious cultured half pearl in a textured gold bezel at its center core. Emanating from the pearl four yellow gold spokes set with twelve (12) old European cut diamonds (with a total estimated diamond weight of .18 carats) radiate outwardly to a white enamel perimeter.

Interspersed between the spokes panels of white enameled open work scrolling designs of Persian or Moorish influence provide both an exotic and sensuous component. Très chic, the weight and superbly crafted clip is perfect for accenting a jacket or neckline. Just look at the detail of the clip itself to see its amazing gold artistry. You can even attach it to the waist or pocket of a pair of jeans. Try placing it over a chain for a unique pendant look!

Date: Circa 1930.
