Story

With her background in goldsmithing, Angela Cummings is known for working mainly in 18 karat gold. Many of her nature inspired designs take a path not frequently followed by designers of high end jewelry.

This simple yet elegant solitaire ring follows her trademark tradition of the use of 18k yellow gold. Dated 1986, it is from the earlier years of freedom after her departure from the more structure work at Tiffany & Co.

Set with a round faceted garnet of an estimated 2.7 carats, she designed at least two versions of this ring – one with a slightly smaller diameter and the one featured here with a diameter of 3/8 of an inch (just shy of 1 cm). True to her love of all things organic, the lush garnet is punctuated with geranium pink highlights which pair perfectly with the glow of 18k yellow gold. With a sculptor’s eye, the mounting is a twisting visage of thick rich yellow gold spiraling below the radiant gemstone. Please note that for Ms. Cummings, comfort of wear is one of the most substantive components in her designs.

Date: 1986.
