Story

“There’s a heart in every Locket” is the trademark slogan used by the design and manufacturing jewelers Wightman & Hough Co. of Providence, Rhode Island (1856 – 1922). The firm was known for their sweetheart necklaces and especially for these engraved lockets for men and women. They also made charms, seals, miniature brooches and medallions. In addition, the company made custom items such as the 1912 Boston Red Sox World Championship sterling and gold pieces for the players to commemorate their champion season.

With a flat and thin profile (ideal for everyday wear), the ornate hand engraved oval double box locket features designs on both the front and reverse. The back is incised with a script monogram of the initials ILG. The front has an intricate series of patterns and designs with a blank circular cartouche just waiting for your initials or a date. The surface is visually arresting and has both a matte and a polished finish. The outer elements are 6k yellow gold with the rims and inner sections gold-filled. Notable aspects are the hidden hinge and two interior compartments suitable for a photograph and a keepsake.

Date: Circa 1910.
