Story

When surveying trends of the Victorian era, the presence of nature pervades. Whether a formal English garden or a touch of science in the guise of an extensive collection of butterflies, acknowledgement of the natural world became a part of the day-to-day experience for these nature-loving Victorians.

Beautiful craftsmanship and design overwhelm the senses with this perfectly sized precious metal and gem encrusted little lizard brooch. Whimsy aside, the dinosaur in miniature is made of 15k yellow gold and silver. Undulating reptilian movement is realized with the slithering subtle curves of its lithe body and the placement of a series of nineteen (19) demantoid garnets of an estimated total .36 carats within a gold cartouche.

Head, sides and legs sparkle with “scales” of forty (40) graduated in size old European cut diamonds of an estimated .34 carats (H-I color; VS2 clarity). A pair of tiny ruby eyes set on the sides of the head gives the stealthy creature vision beyond that of humans. Well defined golden feet with tiny toes aid and abet our small lizard companion with stability and a sense of sure footing.

Date: Circa 1880.
