Story

An elongated oval cabochon of natural turquoise is the focal pint of this lyrical Art Nouveau pendant of 18k yellow gold. The Art Nouveau design style is governed by the use of materials characterized more so by aesthetics than by intrinsic value, for instance diamonds were not the gemstone of choice, opals or turquoise were far more desired.

The natural turquoise (14 mm by 8 mm) of an estimated 4.25 carats is light blue with a golden coppery matrix or pattern which harmonizes with the rhythmic contours of the gold scaffolding of the pendant. Open work design is accented with a grape cluster and leaf motif using small natural freshwater pearls and textured gold leaves. The pendant is bounded north and south with a round natural freshwater pearl at the apex and a natural dog tooth pearl dangle. A lozenge shaped gold bale set with three (3) small seed pearls completes the period piece.

Date: Circa 1910.
