Story

The opal connoisseur prefers red and this superb gem goes beyond tiny flecks and pinkish highlights to a preponderance of that specific color which reigns supreme. Standing out against a blue black background with aspects of deep peacock purple and navy with neon green and blue high points, the red is akin to lighting flashes against an early summer sunset. Without question the finest black opal we have offered in our 11 year history.

At the helm the opal (13 mm by 10 mm) is set within a bezel of 14k yellow gold as four silver-topped 14k yellow gold crescent moons are each dotted with five (5) old European cut diamonds and eight (8) old European cut “stars” flash with a total estimated diamond weight of .60 carats to play out a celestial game of tag.

The brooch is representative of the penultimate craftsmanship we have come to appreciate as Edwardian. Designed with removable fittings, there is a sickle form for suspending a dangle or watch and another top fitting. If so desired, we can have an additional “O” fitting permanently attached to allow for use as a pendant. The fantastic antique brooch pendant is accompanied by a modern 14k yellow gold chain of 16 or 18 inches of your choosing.

Date: Circa 1910.
