Story

Carved moonstone rings were quite popular during the later decades of the Victorian and earlier years of the Edwardian periods. The “Man in the Moon” motif was the most frequent image carved with classical representations also being employed.

Here we have a charming variation on those themes with the rendering of the face of a baby of Victorian times complete with chubby cheeks, wide open eyes, a baby nose and puckered lips. The wee lass is dressed in a bonnet and sports a bow. An oval moonstone with a blue white hue and fine aura is the perfect vehicle for carving in this manner. An especially nice sheen enables a lovely translucency. The moonstone is claw set in a mount of 14k rose gold. Atop the face a “tiara” of three (3) small accent diamonds with an estimated total weight of .03 carats adds a tad bit of shine. Engraved to the interior is the name “Bessie”.
