Story

Own a piece of English jewelry history!

This high carat yellow gold poesy ring (22k or higher) was discovered in Great Britain using the technology of a metal detector. Excavated from the ground, as are many of these posy rings, this 4 mm wide ring is engraved to the interior with the expression “A token of love”.

Inscribed in a font which appears as though the posie were written using a quill pen and ink, the quaint saying is accompanied by a hallmark of “GG” or “CC” – possibly referencing Christopher Canner, a goldsmith working in London in the earlier part of the 18th century. A reference in “Jackson’s Silver & Gold Marks” edited by Pickford notes a similar hallmark found on an item circa 1720.

Date: Late 17th or 18th century.
