Story

We typically expect a garnet to be somewhere in the red spectrum. Rare but also a hue with which we come in contact with is the green demantoid garnet. Pyrope, almandine and the fairly new tsavorite are also on the jewelry scene. Hessonite is a garnet of a truly different color which we do not often encounter. This variety exudes a warm and rich amber tone which lends itself quite nicely to a pairing with yellow gold.

Here a favorite Edwardian style, i.e., the cluster ring takes advantage of this underused gemstone. An oval faceted hessonite of an estimated 1.2 carats plays lead in a sophisticated jewelry drama. The glorious golden amber gem glows with a richness magnified by a surround of twelve (12) old European cut diamonds of an estimated total .60 carats. The bright white diamonds shimmer with a color grade of J-K. All set in a modified coronet mounting of 14k yellow gold.

Date: Circa 1890.
