Story

Classical and neoclassical designs are staples of fine jewelry. Trends come and go yet a certain sense of the aesthetic remains eternal. Such is the case with this pair of Ceylon sapphire and diamond platinum earrings. Sapphires mined in Ceylon (presently Sri Lanka) have characteristic cornflower blue hues rather than the typically dark royal blue of sapphires from many other countries.

Classical lines follow in this pair of late Edwardian pendant earrings. The naturalistic composition of leaves and buds set with rose cut and old European cut diamonds in a flowing line are punctuated with an oval faceted sapphire of an estimated 2.25 carats set in a simple collet of platinum. This traditional three element design includes a round diamond set platinum surmount. In all, each earring features fourteen (14) rose cut and four (4) old European cut diamonds with a total estimated diamond weight of .43 carats. For ease of wear later post ear wires have been added.

Date: Circa 1920.

THE FINE PRINT

Due to the nature of antique & vintage jewelry, many diamond and gemstone weights are calculated by measurements, not removed. Actual weights are noted in the item’s description. Grading of diamonds and gemstones may vary slightly when removed.

HONESTY

Being as honest as possible about the items we represent for sale is our ultimate goal! Our pricing is industry recognized as fair and equitable with value as the byword.

Measurements: 1-1/2 of an inch (3.8 cm) in length by 3/8 of an inch (1.0 cm) in width. Weight of 6.1 grams (3.9 dwt) for the pair including ear nuts.

Condition: Very good; light wear to facet edges of sapphires visible with magnification; later post ear fittings.

Note: Stones were not removed to preserve the integrity of the setting. All weights are approximated by measurement and formula and may vary from actual weights.
