Story

There are specific gemstones which due to inclusions within their structure and the manner in which light is reflected display special optic phenomenon. Asterism is one such property and causes a visual show of a four to twelve ray star to appear. These gems typically have a “star” label attached to the species of gem, as in star sapphire or star ruby. However, certain other factors also can create a similar effect.

Such is the situation with this beautiful dome shaped cabochon sapphire. Due to its pointed cut, the evocative blue stone demonstrates a modified form of asterism much like its kissing cousin the star sapphire. Set within a mille grain accented platinum mount, this sapphire of celestial blue has its own starry sky brightened even more by the addition of a triangular cut and single cut diamond on both shoulders. The total estimated diamond weight of .08 carats are spotlights of brilliance against the counterpoint of the blue beauty. A subtle tapered shank finishes the look of the stunning finger ring.

Date: Mid to later 20th century.
