Story

Truly fine Edwardian and Art Deco paste jewelry has all but disappeared from the landscape. The Three Graces has purchased a small private European collection of four items of this nature. This spectacular paste necklace of silver is a part of said acquisition.

From 1890 – 1920 the garland style and the ribbon bow motif were two of most ubiquitous themes of the time. Jewelers looked back to the 18th century for inspiration and found these decorative designs to be particularly well suited to the delicacy and lightness which was preferred.

Exquisite, delicate and finely wrought, the proportion and symmetry of this necklace is flawless. A garland is surmounted by a ribbon bow with tails gently “flowing” within the foliate wreath. When worn the clear white pastes set in silver sparkle in the lowest of lights and never reveal that the brilliance is not diamonds.

On each side fine chain attaches to a pair of marquise shaped plaques set with tiny clear pastes alternate with a round paste set in silver. The two lengths of chain meet in a paste set trefoil element which suspends the garland and bow motif pendant. Please note that even the reverse is superb.

Date: Circa 1905.
