Story

For centuries, finer pieces of jewelry incorporated change and adaptability. That adaptability meant that pieces could be altered to the mood and dress of the wearer. After all, a disposable society was unheard of until recent decades. Fast forward to the early part of the 20th century and we still see some of that innovative and thoughtful spirit.

This sapphire platinum ring holds a secret. The center stone can be removed by a jeweler and changed to another gemstone. Utilizing the tiny screw driver provided, the jeweler loosens the setting so that another cabochon can be inserted. Voila - a new hue and a new look.

Currently this superbly orchestrated and designed mounting holds a heady blue sapphire in a sugar loaf cabochon cut of approximately 4 carats. Deep and arced, its uninterrupted surface caresses the intricate petal and ribbon motifs of the mount. A multitude of diamonds drapes the surface - designed to have twenty-three (23) on one side and twenty-two (22) on the other, most are old European cuts, a few old single cut diamonds - in all an estimated total diamond weight of .32 carats. The handmade custom screwdriver is 14k white gold and steel.

We are happy to discuss custom cutting of any manner of gemstones - ruby, emerald, and aquamarine...your choice.

Date: Circa 1920.
