Story

Today we are all about “natural” and frequently push aside an item when the word appears synthetic is mentioned. That attitude has not always been a philosophy of life. In fact, new technology such as the invention of synthetic gemstones often becomes all the rage and the old (in this case, natural) becomes less desirable.

The early decades of the 1900s were fraught with “new fangled” inventions specific to jewelry. White gold and synthetic sapphires were the coveted items sought by the fashion conscious of the day. Here we see some of the new “technology” in the guise of a 14k white gold ring.

A central old European cut diamond of about .12 carats is set within a square bezel and flanked east to west by two (2) brilliantly colored and faceted synthetic sapphires. The horizontal profile of the period emphasizes the preferred streamlined geometrics of the era. The under gallery of the mount is a sexy labyrinth of open work white gold defining a plethora of rectangles, ovals, teardrops and more.

Date: Circa 1924.
