Story

What makes a fine natural freshwater pearl? One such factor is that the greater the difference between the darkest and lightest highlights (shadow and light) on the surface, the better the pearl. A finer pearl has a surface almost like a mirror – when moved, a vague image or your reflection can be seen, the pearl is of better quality.

Both of those qualities are present in this natural freshwater button pearl (Unio species) of 8.14 by 8.09 mm. With a white color, very fine luster and an excellent surface, this wonder of nature holds its own against a surround of ten (10) old European cut diamonds with one about .78 carats and the other large stone .73 carats. Two (2) additional old European cuts appoint the shoulders of this cluster ring for an estimated total diamond weight of 2.5 carats (H-I color range; VS2-SI1 clarity). A marvelous 18k yellow gold mount does justice to the gems. Please note the sunburst design on the underside of the ring.

A Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certificate for the pearl accompanies the ring.

Date: Circa 1910.
