Story

A superb high color and clarity old European cut diamond (G color; VS1 clarity) of an actual 1.02 carats with a round perimeter and open culet plays first chair in this orchestra of precious gems and platinum. Placed in a square platinum setting, the center diamond is surrounded by a series of eight (8) fancy cut natural sapphires situated in an octagonal bezel.

The open work mount is further enhanced with an even dozen (12) single cut diamonds with a total weight of .16 carats. Beautiful platinum elements with mille grain accenting adorn the shoulders which segue into a silken platinum band. Partially worn engraving to the interior reads “ABS to CME 4-29-49”.

The ring is accompanied by a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certificate stating that the main diamond is a brilliant cut. Please be advised that GIA and other laboratories often categorize old European and transitional cut diamonds under the umbrella term of “brilliant cut” as the those diamond cuts are indeed each a form of the brilliant cut.

Date: Circa 1949 for the mount; diamond is earlier 20th century.
