Story

Almandine garnets with that characteristic flat cut table and minimal faceting just around the edge were ubiquitous to Georgian era jewelry and a favorite of the ladies of the period. Typically set foiled and closed back, this technique gave the gems a stunningly lush and lavish purplish color ranging from deep mulberry to claret red.

This pair of drop earrings of 9k yellow gold features what appears to be a marriage between a top round cut garnet set in a pinched collet of gold and a quite expressive stylized flower drop. Consisting of thirteen (13) almandine garnets, a central pear shape supports single and double garnet set petals. Three pendant drops at the bottom which echo the tear shape central gem have finials of small round garnets. The reverse reveals the flat versus bulbous back consistent with the later years of the Georgian era.

Date: Circa 1810.
