Story

Is it the superior mastery of craftsmanship or the quality of the materials which places Georgian era jewelry into a category unto itself? Perhaps this is better left as a rhetorical question or as a subject for a philosophical debate than an attempt to quell that inquiry with a few sentences. However, wait…although almost any item of Georgian jewelry most certainly can stand on its merits alone, a piece from this era creates its own “mise-en-scène”. In essence, this phrase refers to everything that goes into the composition of “the scene, i.e. the people, the space, the lighting, the décor, the clothing and the like. This pair of period earrings brings it all together.

The pair of marvelous Georgian earrings of 15k yellow gold and amethyst features characteristic design elements associated with the era. The surmount consists of a rectangular amethyst with cushion cut corners which suspends a teardrop shaped amethyst pendant. All of the gems are foiled and set closed back in exquisitely designed three-part bezels appointed with orbs of gold and intricate stylized floral patterns. The foiling imparts a lilac purple hue to faceted amethysts which generates a most vivid coloration. The earrings are fully articulated and have been provided with later date ear wires for secure wearing.

Date: Circa 1820.
