Story

Very little can rival the splendor and the absolute magnetism of the diamond. Yet centuries before the discovery of the diamond the pearl reigned supreme. Often thought to be the world’s first gem, the pearl has been referred to as the “Queen of Gems” with unrivaled beauty and resplendence.

Edwardian in style and manner, the luxuriously long opera length strand features two hundred and twelve (212) natural saltwater pearls – so lengthy that the strand easily can be worn doubled. An unbelievable find as natural pearls, due to excessive harvesting in the late 1800s have virtually disappeared from the market.

Strung graduated in size from 5.75 mm to 2.17 mm, the pearls are cream in color with hints of pink and green and display a wondrous translucency and great luster. The strand is secured with an open work platinum tongue and groove clasp ornamented with three (3) old European cut diamonds of a total estimated diamond weight of .20 carats, eighteen (18) rose cut accent diamonds and a mix of natural and synthetic sapphires.

Comes with a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certificate.

Date: Circa 1910.

THE FINE PRINT

Due to the nature of antique & vintage jewelry, many diamond and gemstone weights are calculated by measurements, not removed. Actual weights are noted in the item's description. Grading of diamonds and gemstones may vary slightly when removed.

HONESTY

Being as honest as possible about the items we represent for sale is our ultimate goal! Our pricing is industry recognized as fair and equitable with value as the byword.

Measurements: 32-3/8 inches (82.2 cm) in length. Weight of 14.3 grams (9.19 dwt).

Condition: Excellent; strand has been restrung for security; a few sapphires chipped and visible with magnification; several sapphires possibly replaced.

Note 1: Diamonds have not been removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting. All diamond weights have been approximated by measurement and formula and may vary from actual weights.

Note 2: Accompanied by a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certificate stating that the pearls are natural saltwater ranging in size from 2.17 mm to 5.75 mm. The current GIA standard for pearl certificates states that this strand has less than 5 pearls that are not natural.
