Story

Distinctive ultramarine blue enamel provides eye-catching attention with sensational color in this Victorian ring of 18k yellow gold. Centered is an old European cut diamond of an estimated .40 carats (H-I color; SI1 clarity) placed in a recessed buttercup setting. Flanking the sides of the central gem is a gypsy set rose cut diamond each of about .02 carats. The contrast of the rich blue enamel, yellow gold and sparkling diamonds is unusually dramatic. Engraved to the interior in italicized script, albeit somewhat faint and worn is “Jan 8, 79 and possibly, C W, Dec 75”. This is possibly the initial of two individuals and their birthdays spent together.

Date: Circa 1879.

THE FINE PRINT

Due to the nature of antique & vintage jewelry, many diamond and gemstone weights are calculated by measurements, not removed. Actual weights are noted in the item’s description. Grading of diamonds and gemstones may vary slightly when removed.

HONESTY

Being as honest as possible about the items we represent for sale is our ultimate goal! Our pricing is industry recognized as fair and equitable with value as the byword.

Measurements: 5/16 of an inch (0.8 cm) in length north to south on the hand and rises 1/8 of an inch (0.3 cm) in height off the finger. Weight of 4.8 grams (3.0 dwt).

Ring Size: US 9-1/4 (UK S; Int. Dia. 19.25; Euro 61 mm; Japan just over 18) and easily can be sized down with inserts or similar. We do not recommend sizing up due to the enamel work. Please contact us for additional details. Ring sizing information.

Condition: Excellent; evidence of a former resizing visible with magnification, Central diamond appears to have been replaced in the early 20th century.

Note: Diamonds have not been removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting. All diamond weights have been approximated by measurement and formula and may vary from actual weights. Grading has been done in situ and also may vary if stones are removed.
