Story

Turn of the 20th century - Russia - St. Petersburg. Royals - Romanovs - Nicholas II and Alexandra. Faberge. Tolstoy - Chekhov. Tchaikovsky - Rubenstein.

Such was the atmosphere of privileged Russia and Czarina Alexandra reaped the benefits of her position. She had jewels beyond compare which, unlike her noble “peers” she chose to keep behind closed doors. Perhaps treasures such as these antique earrings were in her personal collection. No one truly knows what has become of the majority of the jewels.

Dramatic and stately without being overwhelming, each of these diamond earrings sports a total of twenty-six (26) diamonds with an estimated total diamond weight of 2 carats. There are twenty-four (24) old European cuts, one (1) single cut diamond and one large pear shaped diamond (one is 1.65 carats; the other is 1.60 carats with I-J color range and SI1-2 clarity).

The lozenge shaped surmount, set with diamonds in each of the four cardinal points, is articulated in two places and is appointed with two (2) additional diamonds. Suspended is a diamond studded silver over 14k yellow gold open teardrop with an open interior configuration similar to that of a modified bell form within which is a large articulated pear shaped diamond with a round diamond at its apex. All open backed, the diamonds are set in silver-topped 14k gold.

Date: Circa 1900.
