Story

A sumptuous double box locket of 14k yellow gold brandishes a strong image amidst a field of chased and engraved Art Nouveau motifs. Scrolling curves border the perimeter with an energy-like movement akin to powerful ocean waves. Set within is a chased image of a lion rampant – in an act of fighting standing upright on one hind leg with forelegs outstretched to meet its antagonist. The power within the noble animal is apparent and expressed with the dynamism associated with the Art Nouveau movement. In defiance one foreleg is placed upon the shield with a star-set diamond of about .05 carats.

To the reverse is a hand engraved monogram with the initials “H M” in flowing italic script. The locket itself is designed to hold two photographs. The rims for both compartments are present with one glass cover intact; the other is replaced with a later date plastic insert.

Date: Circa 1900.
