The front of the locket as follows: a shield blazoned argent (silver) with a bend argent paleways (half way) between a sinister (left) dirk fessways (horizontal), point to dexter (right) with pommel to sinister and another at base (bottom), pommel to sinister and point to chief (top) dexter. Borne as crest in profile sinister is lion passant guardant – at the top of the shield stands a lion facing outward with head to the left.

Date: 1885.

Measurements: 1-1/2 inches (3.8 cm) in length including bale by 3/4 of an inch (2 cm) in width. Weight 5.3 grams (3.4 dwt).

Hallmarks: Full set of English hallmarks for Birmingham and a date letter representing 1885. Partially visible maker’s mark of "S & ?".

Condition: Very good; a few minor indentations to front and reverse.
