Story

Georgian guard-chains were quite the fashion of the day. Versatile in presentation, wearing the long chain (as it was sometimes called) was an art form unto itself and could be flung over the shoulder, draped across the bodice or in layers around the neck. In a sense it is unfortunate that these chains are so wildly popular today that they are now being reproduced (and shortened to make two not one chain).

The Three Graces however, brings forth only authentic items and this 15k yellow gold long chain is not only “the real thing” but is totally original circa 1820. Each link, comprised of three rings is constructed in such a manner as to form an impressive open chain. The glorious clasp is a figural representation of a hand emerging from an ornate blouse sleeve appointed with a multi-petal flower centered with an appliqué of a clover leaf motif. The details of the hand are remarkable with each of the slender fingers sporting a delicate fingernail and the index finger “wearing” a Georgian-era ring set with a green stone. Scarce.

Date: Circa 1820.
