Story

Retro jewelry is often multi-colored, combining rose and yellow gold with platinum, white gold or palladium. With a war going on in Europe and American making preparations in regard to potential involvement, precious resources such as platinum were at a premium. Palladium, a member of the element group containing platinum, iridium, rhodium and the like was being used in for jewelry in the place of platinum as it had a silvery-white luster.

Quite wide in girth, this characteristically tri-colored metal eternity band or wedding ring uses rose and yellow gold of 14k as well as the rare and prized metal palladium. Typically whiter than platinum, palladium provides a stark contrast to the warmer rose and yellow gold. The total surface of the wide ring is appointed with an array of jewel-studded flowerheads alternating with unadorned leaf motifs. A trio of rose gold flower forms is each set with a synthetic ruby; the three palladium blooms each feature a center single cut diamond. Thick golden borders accent the top and bottom perimeter of the striking period ring.

Date: Circa 1940.
