Story

As the early decades of the 19th century progressed so did the length of the earrings with the necessity of offsetting the effects of the increased horizontal (widened) contours of both the hairstyles and garments of the day. With a need to economize and to accommodate the exaggerated heights of earrings, the technique of cannetille gold work was developed.

This pair of three-element 14 – 15k yellow gold earrings most certainly does not economize on grandeur or the look of opulence. Each earring displays very fine Georgian cannetille work of three-dimensional filigree embracing six (6) almandine garnets. The shaped flat cut gems are set closed back in the characteristic manner of the majority of pre-1840 jewelry. Finely “spun” coils, scrolls and beehives of gold are threaded throughout with tendrils of gold. The beautifully articulated design of three forms is well proportioned and balanced to harmonize with almost any fashion statement.
