Story

The timeline associated with certain jewelry styles is not always discrete. Often there is an overlap of techniques and/or characteristics which are associated with the dictates of the previous movement. In addition, some aspects are truly classic and timeless in their application.

Such is the marquise shape thanks to 15th century King Louis XV and the shape of the mouth of Marchioness Madame de Pompadour. Cleaved into a true marquise or navette shaped stone is a marvelous pale lilac hued amethyst. Faceted to bring out all the natural refraction this royal stone has to offer, it has been set within a 14k yellow gold mount delightfully ornamented with most unusual orange and green enameling. The setting itself is a modified marquise configuration with the ends points converted to a more linear symmetry.

Aspects, such as the subtle curvilinear demarcation of the enamels and the twisted wire work bezel reflect the lingering effects of Art Nouveau. The engraved patterns of the under gallery and shank are a tribute to the neo-classical designs of the 19th century.
