Story

The locket is perhaps the most sentimental of all jewelry. It has contained such a wide variety of remembrances including photos, a curl of hair and even a sprig of the dogwood tree held or worn close to the heart. The memento within is usually hidden from the public eye yet there are lockets such as this late 19th century example which allow the outer world to be privy to one’s inner world.

Timeless in its simplicity, rock crystal has been carved and polished to fabricate the oval convex sides of the locket. A sleek rim of silver gilt encapsulates the edges to form a hinged container which magically magnifies whatever is contained within its confines.
