Story

Hearts were among the most desired jewelry motifs of the Edwardian age and this turn-of-the century pendant displays the design in its entire splendor. Queen Alexandra absolutely loved amethysts; consequently this luscious stone became one of the preferred gems.

A deeply colored amethyst has been faceted, cut in the shape of the enigmatic heart and set within a 15k yellow gold mount edged with a delicate saw tooth perimeter. At the crest of the heart an ionic style scroll takes on the role of a golden halo with ribbons with natural half seed pearl accents caressing the sides. The amethyst is just superb in its depth of color and gives the gem a mystical overlay. It measures 21 mm wide at the widest point and 24 mm high with a weight estimated at 33 carats. Set in the original gold bale are natural half seed pearls in floral form.

The pendant is accompanied by a 9k yellow gold rope chain with patterned barrel clasp. Although most likely not original to the heart, the chain is well suited to the piece.
