Pearls were one of the favorite gems of the early or Romantic Victorian era. In fact according to jewelry experts and authors Bennett and Mascetti, the preferred engagement ring of the 1850s was a half-pearl half-hoop ring such as the one pictured.

Here five natural half pearls are coronet set within a 14k yellow gold mount. The entire band is quite ornate with swirls, scrolls and foliate motifs. Within the engraving is an unadorned tapering inset which compliments the complex design above and below.

Condition: Very good; light wear to two pearls; a bit of wear to design at the back of band commensurate with age and use.
