Story

Charms can be traced back to prehistory when amulets and talismans were worn or carried as spiritual devices or protective ones to ward off evil. The collecting of charms has undergone several revivals. One of which is when WWII service personnel stationed in foreign cities sent souvenir charms to loved ones as well as bringing back fond remembrances when they returned home.

Sporting twenty heart motif charms the majority of which are sterling silver, is a wonderful charm bracelet from the 1940s which has remained intact. Typically the charms from these vintage bracelets were and continue to be sold off one by one. Often signifying a personal history, each charm relates a memory, a recollection fondly recalled.

Here the back of each charm has been engraved with a name or initials: blue flower, Sara; flower, Roslyn; flourish design with diagonal band, M.G.S.; flowers with flourish and dots, engraving illegible; cross and anchor, D.G.N., blue bow, Daddy; orange and vines, Maurice; flourish border, Gene; small flower in vase, D; bird with envelope, F; light blue stars, Mike; bird on branch, Mother; large round heart, B.R.T.; eagle American crest, B.R.T.; hole in the middle, B.R.T.; flower, Erik; I LOVE U banner, Fergie; two hearts, Fergie.

These bracelets are once again in vogue and are seen on the wrists of today’s socialites and Hollywood elite.
