Mikimoto Pearl Choker 8 MM - Lane Crawford
SOLD OUT
ITEM: 22907
There is a major difference in cultured pearls when it comes to size. These fine pearls are created by the species of oyster, the pinctada fucata.
Most fine Akoya pearls range from very small and average for strands and necklaces around 4 to 7 mm. those that are 8 mm in diameter are scarce indeed. While up to 9 or 9.5 mm can be uncovered, most Mikimoto pearls range at 6-7 mm or below.
Even larger pearls originate from the South Seas, from the pinctada maxima oyster, and yield pearls from 9 mm and far larger.
Formerly retailed by Lane Crawford, this Hong Kong store was established back in 1850 and still exists today. They once represented Mikimoto pearls, although that is no longer the case.
This vintage necklace is a 15 5/8 inch strand of 8 mm average diameter Akoya pearls. They come in their original metallic fabric case, white box, and their original paperwork and insert.
It states the date of sale (illegible), the size of the pearls, 7.75 to 8 mm, with the original length or 18". One pearl was damaged and removed by The Three Graces, and restrung for security, so currently with tighter knots, are a bit shorter.
Their coloration is a creamy, soft white with golden undertones. They possess fine luster and warm glow. A silver Mikimoto safety clasp finishes these glorious pearls.
