Combining those two factors leads not only to an amazing collection, but jewelry that translates to long term value and desirability.
First, rarity...Georgian long chains that remain their original length rank as a prized collectible. Not only that, but highly versatile, they can be worn in a number of ways and with a variety of ensembles.
Unfortunately, most of these intricate chains have been broken apart. A long chain can make one, two, or more separate necklaces with the possible aim, often, of making more money. Occasionally they were separated to accommodate two heirs, each could have part of the legacy. But either way, finding those that are untouched is a delight.
Next on the rarity scale is the type of chain and its age. Those from the earlier 19th century have always commanded attention. Those with enamel detail, even more. In this chain, panels of Swiss enamel glorify every other link front and back!
Cobalt blue, spring green, persimmon orange, and ivory white signify two types of flowers and leaves. One appears to represents a blue lily flower.
Between are repoussé links with an open slit in the center. Deep and ornate, these are a medley of shadows and highlights.
This is the first narrower profile chain The Three Graces has had the pleasure to offer. Scarce indeed, usually these chains are puffier and wider. This example is truly unique and provides the opportunity to wear it more casually, or as dressy as desired. It is not a form you are likely to find again.
Now for condition. As already discussed, it is the original length. But not only that, the enamel is nearly entirely intact, bright and unscratched. A few tiny areas are now missing, but, boy, do you need to look carefully and closely to find them.
There are also no dents or repairs, and it even still retains its original dog clip fitting.
Study paintings from this period and most women portrayed will be draped with long chains, artfully worn including over the shoulder, under the arm, across the chest, or in the more traditional way.
