Oh What Cages of Gold - Cannetille Earrings
How can one improve upon 18k gold? How can one improve on one of the most flattering shapes for an earring - the teardrop? How can one improve upon an earring that is light, yet its presence makes such a visual statement? Georgian jewelers certainly made their mark with these magnificent openwork cages of gold - holding nothing but the gazes of those around you. Circa 1820, Continental in origin and in near mint condition. Measures 2 5/8 inches long by 9/16 inches wide at the widest and 1/2 inch at the top cluster (6.6 cm by 1.5 cm by 1.4 cm). These could be polished lightly if you desire a lighter shade of gold, we have chosen to leave them as is for now. Balancing light, shadow and texture - these are indulgence of the highest order.
