On the Fringe: Antique Gold Earrings c. 1850

SOLD Item 6577

Only 19th century Austrian or German artisans could have crafted these distinctive ear pendants by preferring to demonstrate elegance through utilitarian simplicity of form. These antique ear bobs have a certain nuance of style melded from two eras past--quintessential intricate Georgian craftsmanship combined with the true Victorian desire to have jewelry enhance and compliment a lady’s inherent and natural beauty. The bold playful influence of Victorian geometrics and the use of fringe have certainly left their mark on these 15k rose gold jewels for the ears.

A touch Etruscan Revival, perhaps a tad Biedermier; nonetheless wonderfully balanced as an observer remains transfixed watching as the fringe uniformly glides with every subtle change and the delicate chains move the body of the pendants as though they were ripples in a pond. Eyes follow the gentle contours of the face which contrast perfectly with the drama of these adornments.

Measures 2 inches long by 9/16 inches wide by 1/4 inch deep at the deepest (5 cm long by 1.2 cm wide by 0.6 cm deep). In near perfect condition with original gold ear wires intact and one single thread of fringe replaced. Austrian or German in origin; circa 1850. Hallmarked fully with 585 and other indiscernible marks. A wonderful addition to the idea of mixing modern and period style for a very contemporary look.
