Magnificent Victorian Diamond Cluster Earrings

These are the must have earrings of the year. A myriad of colors flows from every millimeter of these arresting and dazzling ear bobs. Diamonds, diamonds and more diamonds, and for every carat here, they appear as an another carat with their sheer fire and light. Antique stones are about character and personality, and these diamond earrings precisely fulfill that requirement. Many early cuts of diamonds, particularly the old mine cut, are known for their fire. One can immediately see why.

Gorgeous and full, the center stones are indeed old mine cut gems as their distinguished open culets reflect (the bottom where modern stones come to a point and early diamond are flattened). These two center stones are very high from the girdle (the side edge of the stone) to the top, and are approximately .65 carats per gem. Each is a light yellow tinted stone and has great warmth with a pleasing hue. Surrounding this is a halo of eight (8) more old mine cut diamonds –varying in range of about .15 points each. Colors fluctuate from near colorless to pale yellow. Yet another top diamond above the cluster adds an accent, and is the base for the yellow gold ear wires and lever back safety catch. In varying lights, from daylight to candlelight, there is an infinite variation and color that one can experience – blues, greens, yellows, pinks – all from these gems.

The diamonds are set in silver (as expected for the era) with a gold wash on the sides and back. The ear wires are solid 15k gold. Open crowns of gold nestle and grip each diamond, with the center diamonds held by claws. The entire cluster measures just over ½ inch across by 13/16 inches long (just under 1.3 cm across by 2 cm long). Circa 1880, these are in very good condition with two stones showing tiny chips when viewed with a loupe and some wear to the gold wash. Otherwise fine. Indulgence and pure heaven, all in an earring you can wear everyday.
