Glorious Garnet and Diamond Ring
Stylish, current, and just…magnificent. Sixteen (16) old mine cut diamonds, each placed in a cut down silver setting, furnish the perfect surround for a large cabochon garnet. Styling of the shank is superb. The shoulders of the yellow gold band are embellished with black enamel work and provide an elegant yet simple backdrop for the lushness of the garnet set into a gold pinched collet mount. The diamonds are resplendent--each weighing approximately .04 carats with a total diamond weight of more than .60 carats; their radiance a most splendid contrast against the deep bittersweet wine color of the cabochon
The garnet alone measures 11/16 of an inch in length by 9/16 of an inch wide by 3/8 of an inch in height off the finger (0.8 cm by 1 cm and 0.5 cm high). The ring itself measures 1.7 cm long by 1.5 cm wide by 1.1 cm high off the finger. Currently a size 6 1/2 (UK M; Euro just under 17; 53 mm) but easily sized by our jewelers. Engraved inside with "14 June 1864, Ob 80". Additional engraving illegible due to wear. This was a ring to remember a loved one who has passed at age 80. In excellent condition; light wear to the surfaces commensurate with age; internal flaw in garnet only evident under magnification. Most likely English in origin, ca. 1860. With its gleam and sparkle one can imagine the high style which went along with this token of remembrance--certainly from a grand family.
Note: All diamond weights and color grades are approximate since the stones were not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.
