Tiffany & Co. Mount with Solitaire Diamond
The Tiffany setting has a series of six prongs which attaches the diamond to the mount with an unadorned shank. This setting allows the diamond to show its best features and radiance. The original Tiffany mount uses a high base round six prong head and a slightly tapering band. Tiffany introduced its famous solitaire setting in 1886 and it is still one of the most iconic engagement ring designs of all time.
Mounted in that fabulous setting of 18k yellow gold and platinum prongs is an old European cut diamond of an estimated .70 carats (H-I color; VS1 clarity). The simplicity and elegance of the mount shows the diamond to its best advantage. Engraved to the interior of the shank is “24.8.81” for a date of August 24, 1981.
Accompanied by an an EGL USA certificate for the diamond only which has a retail replacement value of $5980.

Historical Notes: The Tiffany name holds court literally all over the world. Whether as a reference to a Hollywood film (Breakfast at Tiffany’s) or as a shade of light medium robins egg blue – the iconic color associated with the company since 1845. Then there is the famous Tiffany Setting and to quote the company itself…“Since its creation over a century ago, the Tiffany Setting has been the world’s favorite engagement ring. The ring of rings, as it has been called, is the most brilliant ring ever. It is also the most beautiful.”
