Thinking of You: Georgian Garnet Pansy Earrings
The word pansy is believed to be a distortion in pronunciation derived from the French word “pensee” for thought. The flower itself as well as its representation became synonymous with the phrase “thinking of you” and employed as a gesture of sentiment. Here flat cut almandine garnets set closed back in 9k yellow gold form a five petal pansy flower earring symbolic as a token of love.
Date: Circa 1820.
Measurements: 7/8 of an inch (2.2 cm) in length including ear wire by 5/8 of an inch (1.6 cm) in width. Weight of 3.1 grams (2.0 dwt) for the pair.
Condition: Excellent for their great age; four stones with minor chipping; backs have a few small indentations and light wear; modern 9k yellow gold ear wires.
